Overview
Constructed in 1991 and expanded in 2006, the Blood Research Institute (BRI) was established by BloodCenter of Wisconsin to house its basic research programs. A $21 million, state-of-the-art research facility, the BRI occupies 89,000 square feet. It is located on the campus of the Milwaukee Regional Medical Complex which houses the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and its affiliated hospitals, Froedtert Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Interactions among BRI investigators and colleagues in the basic and clinical science programs of MCW contribute to a vibrant campus-wide network of scientific discovery and patient care.
Housed within the BRI are the laboratories of 17 investigator-level scientists populated by approximately 120 research and administrative staff. This includes over 40 postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, research scientists and research associates. Supporting the work of the research laboratories are the BRI’s Core Laboratories.
